“Saint Martyrs – from Contemporary Viewpoint” will be displayed in Belgrade, December 15 – 30, 2024 in the Residence of Princess Ljubica (the Belgrade City Museum). The aim of the exhibition is to foster and draw attention to works in the field of sacred art. This exhibition is a gathering of the artists and researchers from the international art scene aimed at promoting dialogue, creating improved and innovative solutions within the iconographic expression, providing exchange of experiences, education and presentation of different cultural models.
Dr. George Kordis will be in attendance with a 2-day masterclass during the exhibition in December.

SUBMISSIONS:
Photograph of artworks, submission form and evidence on submission fee paid should be submitted in the period from 1 September to 25 November 2024, only electronically to the following e-mail address: m.izlozba.aspc@gmail.com
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
- The competition is open to all individuals over 18 years of age from different artistic disciplines: professional iconographers, fresco artists, sculptors, mosaic artists, ceramic artists and artists working in the field of sacred arts who accept terms and conditions of this competition.
- Exhibition is limited to two works of art per artist on the theme Saint Martyrs – from Contemporary Viewpoint (such as image, half-length figure, full-length figure, hagiographical narrative variants and Saint days associated with male or female martyrs). Theme of martyrdom is very wide and complex. Therefore, we will suggest just some of possible ideas, to serve as inspiration and artistic consideration: Holy warriors, Holy Female Martyrs, the Forty Martyrs of Sebastia, the Holy Royal Martyrs, the Seven Sleepers of Ephesus, Balkan Martyrs, Holy New Martyrs, Fife Disciples…
- Works must not exceed a maximum size of 100cm x 150cm (width-height).
- Works should be properly equipped for exhibiting and signed on reverse side by the artist including label with author’s name and surname, size and value of the work.
- The Artistic Committee (Exhibition jurors) will select works to be exhibited after having evaluated them as works of outstanding artistic and professional level.
- The Artistic Committee/ Exhibition jurors will award the prize for the best work of the exhibition and three recognitions for remaining authors whose pieces will be evaluated as outstanding (1. Recognition for conceptual and artistic impression; 2. Recognition for technical expertise; 3 Recognition for modern reflection). The main winning artwork will be published on the catalogue front cover, while the remaining three recognized pieces will be highlighted in the catalogue.
- All mediums are permitted: egg tempera, acrylic, drawing, watercolor tempera, oil, encaustic, fresco, graphic, mosaic, engraving, ceramics, plaster and similar.
- Works placed in a box or framed work must be delivered in the same form in which they are intended to be exhibited.
- Entry for the competition is performed electronically, by sending the evidence on the submission fee payment to the following e-mail address: m.izlozba.aspc@gmail.com. After that, a candidate will receive the submission form, which should be sent back together with one photograph of each work participating in the competition. Entries and works should be sent to the same e-mail address.
- The originals of works awarded by the jury must be sent after the selection. On the contrary, another high-quality artwork available in the original will be selected, awarded or recognized.
- Also, some invited artists will also participate in the exhibition.
- The organizer will not be held liable for any damage incurred to the artwork during delivery by postal service.
- Titles of photograph files which are submitted must contain: author’s name and surname, title of the work, size, technique and year of creation (for example: Alex Terry, Saint George, 30 x 40, egg tempera, 2022).
- The Artistic Committee will evaluate the works based on the photographs received electronically.
- The submission fee for domestic authors is RSD 2.000,00. The submission fee for foreign authors is EUR 25.
- The submission fee for domestic authors is paid to the bank account number: … (Payment purpose: participation in the exhibition, Beneficiary: Academy of the Serbian Orthodox Church). The fee foreseen for the foreign authors will be paid pursuant to the instruction which will be given at the time of entry.
- Artists whose artworks are selected by the jury will be timely informed on it, so that they can submit their works without delay. (Foreign authors who due to costs are not able to send their original works, will be allowed to print reproductions in the format (40х50) and pay additional fee of EUR 15 per piece, in agreement with organizer.
- Data from submission form will be used for the Exhibition catalogue, for the exhibit label, printed materials related to the exhibition, announcements in media and social networks.
- Authors whose works are going to be included in catalogue, automatically, by participation in the exhibition and submission of photographs of their artworks give their permission to the organizer to publish their works in the catalogue and to use them for exhibition promotion – in media, social networks and in the printed materials accompanying the exhibition (such as catalogue, invitations, posters…), without any compensation.
- Shipped artworks will be returned to artists after the exhibition close by organizers. The artists will be subsequently informed on their e-mail addresses specified in the submission form. The shipping costs shall be sustained by the authors.
- The exhibition will be accompanied by the brief printed catalogue for opening and promotion purposes (flyers), printed catalogue containing works of all authors and the same catalogue in electronic form.
- All exhibitors will get one copy of printed catalogue and will also receive a copy of that catalogue in the electronic form. The catalogue will be issued in both Serbian and English language.
- The artists selected by the jury are bound to send or bring their works, on their own expenses within the specified term to the address: ****
- Photographs of artworks must frontal view photographs, precisely cropped and without any background in order to be published in the catalogue. Photographs of the artworks shall be delivered in JPG format, resolution 300 dpi.
WAIVER OF LIABILITY
Competition announcer, together with exhibition space staff will use best efforts to organize, realize and provide safety of the exhibition and exhibited artworks, but also waives any liability in case of damage or theft. The exhibited artworks will not be insured by the competition announcer and organizer. The competition announcer and organizer are not liable for violation of the intellectual property rights of any third party.
