CONTINUATION OF THE FALL SEMESTER CLASS STARTING FEBRUARY 10th!

Byzantine Icon Drawing Foundations II with Maria Panou

We offer this class as the second installment to Byzantine Icon Drawing Foundations I from Spring for growing in skills Drawing in the Byzantine system.  Independent students may wish to continue building their understanding of the language of the Byzantine system in iconography. This class is also good to continue to reinforce the basics, and for those who are not quite ready to enter into Essential Drawing class with George Kordis (students who are ready can only join in the Fall Semester or with special permission).  This next semester of the foundational course will follow weekly lessons in a variety of practical lessons to include:

  1. More Garments (queens, bishops, armor)
  2. Basic compositions within a landscape
  3. More complex figures — angels and dynamic moving figures
  4. Multiple figure compositions
  5. Other (more animals, buildings, trees, plants and more)

Throughout the lessons, students will continue to strengthen their overall drawing skills, learn more familiarity with the Byzantine system, and gain their own readiness to begin to compose more complex subjects and small compositions, and practice.  All lessons are delivered live in the Zoom class (unlike Kordis’s class which has pre-recorded lessons and the Live session is reserved for corrections and discussions as well as demonstration).

Students will submit their drawings online through email, with corrections and critique individually and privately via email with Maria Panou.  The LIVE Zoom is for the live lessons – students usually can watch and practice a first attempt at home during the Live class, or simply watch and practice their assignments separately.

Time: TUESDAYS, 7:30 to 8:30pm (Athens, Greece) time = 12:30 to 1:30pm Eastern Standard (EST) in the US & Canada, every other week – meets 2x per month.
