NEW WORKSHOP IN THE U.S.!
We are pleased to offer a 6-day teaching residency with Dr. George Kordis at the Icon Museum and Study Center in Clinton, Massachusetts. This opportunity coincides with an exhibition of Kordis’s icons at the museum from June 26th through September 15th.
Rhythm & Light
This workshop is presented as special learning time in a beautiful and inspiring location at the Icon Museum and Study Center ~ the perfect learning environment to make an icon while observing Kordis’s unique creative process as he creates several new icons throughout the week. Surrounded by centuries of tradition at the museum, Dr. Kordis will teach his contemporary artistic approach to the Byzantine system through in-depth demonstrations and detailed exercises in the art, expression and language of the icon using the principles of Byzantine rhythm as a strong foundation to grow upon. Good for both beginners or those with more experience, the residency will provide the opportunity to enter into the creative process with Kordis’s teaching and oversight, covering methods and techniques in both drawing and painting.
Along with the daily hands-on creative sessions, there will be short lectures and other visual inspiration and insight addressing a range of subjects in iconography– from aesthetics and theology to creativity and tradition within the creative process, while Kordis imparts his knowledge of various techniques and methods always paired with good conversation and friendship.
This residency in particular will also allow Dr. Kordis to lead spontaneous group discussions relating to the collection at the museum and a chance to see the extensive icon library onsite.
The exhibition opening of Kordis’s icons will occur on Thursday, June 26th, allowing participating students to attend the special occasion.
