Join Master Iconographer Dr. George Kordis for a 5-day immersive workshop to learn the skills of traditional iconographic painting using the principles and rhythm of the Byzantine system as a strong foundation for creating beautiful Christian icons. With the blessing of his Grace Bishop Kyriakos of Melbourne, this masterclass is a special event coinciding with the centennial celebrations of the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese in Australia and held in conjunction with the newly formed Melbourne School of Iconography.
Dr. Kordis will teach the specific skills of the Byzantine approach to iconography through in-depth demonstrations and detailed exercises in the art, expression and language of the icon. Good drawing skills will be emphasized and set the foundation for Dr. Kordis to share his limited-palette dry brush painting techniques with traditional egg tempera. Along with the daily hands-on sessions, there will be short lectures and good discussion.
Dr. Kordis and his team will be installing work at the church during the workshop period.
All students – beginners and experienced alike — will benefit from the valuable techniques learned in this rare opportunity to study with George Kordis in Australia.
Limited to 16 students. All lodging and meals are handled independently by each student.

The workshop will be held at St. Andrews Greek Orthodox Church with the partnership of the Melbourne School of Iconography.

WORKSHOP SPECIFICS:
Held from 3pm to 7pm daily with four hours of instruction per day.
Materials of icon board, paper and pigments are included in the cost. Students will need to bring their own brushes (suggestions to be shared after registration).

Directions to complete registration will be given at time of registration and payment will be made by direct bank transfer. The full amount is due at registration.
- Once registration is paid in full, note that a $460 AUD (approximately $300 USD /280 Euro) portion of the tuition fee is non-refundable. Should you need to cancel attendance, you will receive a refund for any balance paid minus the non-refundable portion. There are a very limited number of students we can accommodate – we appreciate your understanding. In the case of cancellation, students can transfer their registration to another individual privately if they wish.
